Active for Rio

Active wear is huge right now. It's no longer a frumpy pair of sweat pants and a t-shirt. There are so many fashionable options that you can wear from the gym to the street that you will feel fabulous in. After hitting the gym you can strut down the street running errands or meeting friends for brunch and still look stylish. You can even pair some of your active wear with your everyday wardrobe to create a stylish sporty look. For this post I was inspired by the Olympics in Rio. The Monreal London jacket is sporty yet has a tropical vacay feel to it. I chose some stylish options to go along with it.

Flawless Summer Makeup

In the summer heat how do you keep your make up from melting down your face? I start out the day applying my fresh summer face only to have it turn into a Picasso painting when I walk out the door. There are some products that I discovered through the years that are my go to for keeping my make up in tact and giving me a natural summer beachy look.

1. Benefit What’s Up: This is a cream to powder formula highlighter that wont’s wear away on a sweaty summer day. It also includes a smudger sponge that allows you to blend on to skin seamlessly.

2. Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Metal 24HR Cream Gel Eyeshadow: I typically don’t buy drug store makeup but I have been giving some products a try. Tattoo eye shadow is amazing. The cream gel formula is crease-proof, waterproof and keeps color vibrant all day long. It can be worn sheer or layered to create a more dramatic look.

3. Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion: I discovered this gem couple of years ago and it’s the best thing that has happened to my eyelids. This eye shadow primer gives your eye makeup staying power and prevents creasing. If you’re on a budget this should be one product that you spend your money on. It will even prolong the life of a less expensive eye shadow. A little goes a long way so it will last you a long time.

4. Fresh cosmetics Sugar Tinted Lip Balm: This hydrating lip balm gives you a soft, natural summery look and it’s so light weight. It does not give you that sticky feel that you get from other lip balms. Extra bonus that it contains SPF 15.

5. NARS Bronzer: I love that summer sun kissed looked minus the skin damage. This is why I can’t live without my bronzer. My favorite is NARS. It works on most skin tones and it does not look orange. Not a good bronzer to use if you are going as Donald Trump for Halloween. It does however have a mico-shimmer which gives your skin a beautiful glow.

If you have any flawless summer beauty tips, please share. I’m sure we can all use new tips to add to our make up bag of tricks.

What to Wear: Picnic in the Park

It's the season for picnics and barbecues. So what do you wear for these outdoor culinary occasions? How do you look fashionable but still comfortable for the occasion. For outdoor gatherings in the sun it's important to wear something that you can stay cool in and move. I like lightweight cotton or jersey sundresses like this bright Nicholas halter dress. Pair the dress with a comfortable pair of wedges or flat strappy sandals. Stay away from heels which will be uncomfortable and will sink into the grass. Don't forget to complete the look with sunglasses and a light weight summer scent.

Living on the Fringe

My favorite trend this season is fringe. This fun trend can not only be found on the hemlines of dresses, skirts, and jackets but also on accessories including shoes, bags, and jewelry.
Fringe was big on the runway for Spring 2016 at Fashion week with designers such as Givenchy, Rebecca Minkoff, and Alexander Wang. You can’t walk into a store without seeing it everywhere.

I love the drama and femininity of fringe and it’s so fun the way it moves and shimmies. If you’re not into drama you can still rock this trend in a more subtle way. Try a pair of fringy shoes with a simple dress. A fringy piece of jewelry is another subtle way of rocking this trend.

I illustrated some of my favorite pieces that will allow you live on the fringe this season.

What to Wear: Summer Edition

Summer is approaching and while Spring weather in New York has been less than desirable I’m optimistic that summer will not let me down (fingers crossed). Summer is my favorite season for fashion and my summer wardrobe is on deck and ready to go.

I look forward to ditching the coat and rain boots for light and airy sundresses and strappy sandals. My feet feel smothered by my boots and need some air. It’s time to free the pinky. I love the freedom of a strappy sandal and the ease of a sundress with no coat to lug around the city.

I'm looking forward to fun outdoor summer activities including picnics in Central Park, rooftop parties, people watching while brunching outside and weekend getaways to the beach. With all of the fun activities you will need a wardrobe to go along. I illustrated some of my favorites for the summer season along with some photos to get you started with your summer wardrobe.

Lets hope that summer weather is more promising.

Welcome!

Welcome to Sketched in Style. I Illustrate the finer things in life and share them with you. As a fashion designer and illustrator living and working in New York City I wanted to have something to combine my two favorite things art and fashion so I created this blog.

What fine things will I be sketching?

I will be sketching fashion, beauty, trends, life in New York City and my travels beyond the big apple. In this blog I show you what is going on in the fashion world in a fun and new way, through illustration. It’s like a fashion magazine but I’m going old school before there was photography, iPhones, and Instagram and using illustration. Well mostly old school. There will be a mix of photos and illustration.

Some of my regular features will be how to wear the latest trends in fashion, trends in beauty, guides to New York neighborhoods and beyond, and illustrations straight from fashion week and the red carpet. I hope you enjoy my blog, learn something new and get inspired.
